WHEREAS, Sidney Magee, Sr. & Wilkie Lee Magee were lifelong residents of Tylertown MS, and lived during one of the most  eventful centuries of this world's history and in their quiet way were a force for good and a stabilizing influence on those around them; and

WHEREAS, during their long and productive life together they raised 14 children; 11 boys and 3 girls. Their children blessed them with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren to carry on their legacy; and 


WHEREAS, Sidney, Sr. was a lifelong and devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and was a member of the choir. Wilkie was a lifelong and devoted member at Magee's Creek Church of God in Christ, she was a mother of the Church and a worship leader; and

WHEAREAS, both were foundational pillars in the community. They were productive citizens and big-hearted community members in so many ways including helping anyone in need. Sidney, Sr. was a local entrepreneurial; he built houses, sold fresh produce, served as a community butcher, and he served as a grave digger when needed. Wilkie was a homemaker and introduced her children to Jesus. She was blind but nevertheless she taught each child how to cook and take care of themselves before going out into the world. 

WHEREAS,  Sidney, Sr. and Wilkie instilled honesty and hard-work in their children, because of their labor, generation are able to see a reflection of what is possible with hard work, grit, and determination. They raised their children to always give their best, to be respectful and to have generous giving hearts; and 

WHEREAS, Sidney, Sr. and Wilkie core beliefs were to always be a positive role model to their children, and off-springs, they ensure that cultural traditions and timeless values would be passed on to future generations. They valued God, family and Education, they encouraged them to own Real-Estate (to own land and your own home); and

WHEREAS, It is a privilege for the Magee Family on this 23rd day of June 2018 to honor and remember Sidney and Wilkie Lee Magee.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Board of Mayor and Alderman of the Town of Tylertown, Mississippi do hereby proclaim June 23rd ad "Sidney Magee, Sr. & Wilkie Lee Magee Day" in the Town of Tylertown and honor their life and legacy, we extend to their family out deepest appreciation for their distinguished and dedicated service to the community.
